The tropical rainforests of Wayanad are an extension of the Western Ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is world-renowned for its rich biodiversity and amazing scenic beauty. Admittedly walking into these thick, beautiful jungles with Footprints Wayanad, you are walking into a region of great ecological importance. Western Ghats are regarded as one of the eight “hottest hotspots” of biological richness, and so do Wayanad’s forests justify this claim through its fauna and flora.

Wayanad lies to the northern part of Kerala and the tropical forests found there are in the real sense of the word a ‘tropical’ heaven for anyone who likes nature. The area has a number of wildlife sanctuaries which includes Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary where one can be introduced to various forms of vegetations as well as animals, Avifauna as well as mammalian diversity begins from elephants and ends with the tiger. Also, forests are not only the domains of large mammals, but they also have forests which are home to birds like the Malabar Grey Hornbill, and Nilgiri Flycatcher, and even the Great Indian Hornbill who are all quite rare.

Our Junglee Island expedition at Footprints Wayanad will take you to the interiors of Wayanad’s virgin forests specifically Kuruva Island which is a river delta formed by the river Kabini, and which is also a natural island. Within this location, one will find plants, herbs, and trees that grow there and have been there for many years. This excursion is one able to lose oneself in the wilderness and the forces that in turn preserve this wilderness.

At Footprints Wayanad, we advocate for sustainable tourism. Every adventure we design appreciates the natural splendour of Wayanad, ensuring that our footprint on these delicate environments is as little as possible, while forging a strong bond between travellers and the natural surroundings.’
